  • Plains Art Museum

    The Plains Art Museum in Fargo contains a permanent collection of about 3,000 items ranging from traditional folk art to nation and regional contemporary art. The museum also gets about 12 special exhibits every year and several small exhibits, usually containing art from the 20th or 21st centuries. The museum facility is 56,000 square feet.

    Some of the permanent collections at the museum include work by Frank Big Bear, Jr., who is known for his pencil drawings. David P. Bradley’s permanent collection features art that often portrays a political message advocating rights for Native Americans. William Wegman’s famous Weimaraner dog photos are featured, as well as photography by Todd H. Strand. Many other artists also have permanent collections at the museum.

    The museum store includes various books, sculptures, paintings, cards, hats, scarves, jewelry, glass and polished river rocks.

    Cafe hours at the Cafe Muse located in the museum are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday with menu items such as breads, soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts. Coffee is also served.

    The Plains Art Museum is located at 704 First Ave. N. in Fargo. Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and free for youth and students who bring an ID. Admission is free every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.
